The Story Behind the Method

Thirty Years of Systems Engineering

Oscar Caducén is a former Swedish Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and fighter pilot with three decades in systems where solving the wrong problem was never an option. He led the sub-project management for the JAS 39 Gripen E's Information Intelligence Systems — requirements, architecture, and integration in one of the world's most advanced fighter aircraft.

The method is older than the company. It was born in 2006 as Fråga Noll — carried from Cranfield's Systems Engineering for Defence into the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters, where the same discipline governed national materiel decisions: no development begins before the objectives are defined. Twenty years later, the question is unchanged: what is this really about?

The practice also carries a law learned earlier, as Wing Commander Flying at the F17 wing: leading the rearmament from Viggen to Gripen (1999–2001) — a flight-safety-critical transformation across five hundred people, carried through a change of quality standards mid-transformation, executed entirely from within the organization. Change delivered from outside never lands. The client's own people carry the change; Qzero holds the drawing.

Strategic Leadership

Advocated JAS 39 Gripen E/F from political decision to operational reality

02

AI Systems Integration

Led tactical system architecture integrating AESA Radar, IRST, and advanced AI-based decision-making

03

Transformation From Within

Led F17's Viggen→Gripen rearmament as Wing Commander Flying (1999–2001) — five hundred people, flight-safety-critical, executed by the organization itself

04

Global Collaboration

Directed cross-functional teams across five countries

05

Academic Excellence

MSc in Systems Engineering for Defence, Cranfield University

I spent thirty years in systems where solving the wrong problem was never an option. Question Zero is that discipline, brought to decisions that deserve the same rigor.
